Here is a sampling of student work from students at Berkeley High School, California College of the Arts Pre-College Printmaking and California College of the Arts Screen Printing I and Digital Hybrid Printworks classes.

Screen Printing I Description:

In this class you will learn all aspects of the most versatile of print forms, the screen print (or silk screen, or serigraph). Utilizing hand and digitally manipulated techniques you will create a number of editions and a final exchange print. We will explore many facets both technical and conceptual through demonstrations, readings, discussions and critique. You will learn the particulars of creating stencils, exposing images onto screens, mixing and layering inks, registration and printing, as well as curating and exhibiting prints both traditional and non. We will discuss alternative uses as well as the versatility of the medium and will consider the history and contemporary uses.

Digital Hybrid Printworks Description:

This course will explore traditional printmaking, mixed media methods and the use of new printing technologies to technically and conceptually inform students approach to the print. Scanning, collage, image manipulation, inkjet printing and installation will be considered alongside traditional print methods to inform the creative process. Technical demonstrations will include color ink jet printing, image manipulation, digital/traditional print integration, as well as collage/transfer techniques. Through weekly readings we will explore ideas of contemporary art and how digital technologies, print and print strategies fit in to our practices. This level 2 class is intended for students who have taken at least one printmaking class and who want to build on the experience in the techniques they have already learned. Along with class demonstrations and group critiques, the instructor will work individually with the students on projects with feedback and technical help meant to redefine the parameters of contemporary print.
